Hillary Will and the KB Racing, LLC team eying consistency in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz., (Feb. 20, 2008)
– This weekend, Feb. 22-24, the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series makes its second stop of the new quarter-mile racing season at Firebird Int’l Raceway in Phoenix, Ariz., for the annual running of the Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals. Rising Top Fuel star Hillary Will, the fastest female in the history of NHRA drag racing (334.65 mph) and driver of the KB Racing, LLC Top Fuel dragster, is hoping that her nitro-fueled, 8,000-horsepower dragster continues to run consistently in the desert.

At the season-opening Winternationals event in Pomona, Calif., two weeks ago, Will’s KB Racing, LLC team, led by veteran crew chief Jim Oberhofer, made five out of six laps down the race track in the 4.5-second range. Will is optimistic that her race car will maintain that momentum of quickness this weekend.

“I have every reason to believe we are going to put up some great numbers at Firebird this weekend,” Will, a 27-year old native of Fortuna, Calif., said. “We were just there testing less than a month ago and we ran really well. In fact, one run was even quicker and faster than any of our times in Pomona. I’m really looking forward to a great weekend.”

A former standout in the Top Alcohol Dragster class, Will moved up to the quickest and fastest NHRA professional class, Top Fuel, in 2006 behind the wheel of a newly formed team owned by Las Vegas businessman Ken Black and managed by Kalitta Motorsports, the multi-car team founded and owned by drag racing icon Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta. She won her first Top Fuel event trophy in Norwalk (IHRA) in her rookie season and made her first NHRA final-round appearance in Memphis. She finished the season in tenth place in Top Fuel championship points in ‘06.

The Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals begins Friday for the nitro-fueled classes with two qualifying sessions at 2:00 p.m. (MT) and 4:30 p.m. Two more qualifying opportunities take place Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The top sixteen qualified cars will race Sunday in final eliminations beginning at 11:00 a.m.

All times and dates subject to change.

The Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals is the 2nd of 24 national events in the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
