Hillary Will, KB Racing, LLC Top Fuel dragster – No. 8 qualifier, advanced to round one

Hillary Will and the KB Racing, LLC team lose close race to teammate in Houston

HOUSTON, (March 30, 2008)
– Sunday during eliminations at the annual running of the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Baytown, Tex., just a few miles out of the Houston city limits, Hillary Will, driver of the 8,000-horsepower KB Racing, LLC Top Fuel dragster, and her Kalitta Motorsports teammate Doug Kalitta put on a terrific, side-by-side race down the quarter-mile at Houston Raceway Park, but unfortunately one of them had to lose.

Will, the fastest female in the history of NHRA drag racing (334.65 mph), qualified her dragster in the No. 8 spot for eliminations, 4.599 seconds, 316.45 mph. Kalitta was next in the qualifying order in the No. 9 slot with a 4.606-sec., 317.87-mph effort, so a close race between the two Team Kalitta stars was already expected by the huge crowd in South Texas. The teammates did not disappoint the great fans in Houston when the lights went green in their round one match-up. Kalitta’s 4.607-sec., 317.19-mph charge was just barely better than Will’s 4.619-sec., 310.84-mph lap. The margin of victory was a mere .046 seconds.

“That was such a great race. It’s a shame someone had to lose, but that’s what makes drag racing the most exciting form of motorsports in the world,” Will, a 27-year old native of Fortuna, Calif., said. “Sure, we’re disappointed we didn’t get a chance to go for the win in Houston, but we’re also very happy for our teammate and the Mac Tools team.

“Our KB Racing, LLC team continues to give me a great car every weekend. I can’t say enough good things about our team. I’m sure we’ll be ready to go out and run for the win when we get to [Las] Vegas (next event).”

Will is currently in 8th place in 2008 POWERade Top Fuel championship points.

A former standout in the Top Alcohol Dragster class, Will moved up to the quickest and fastest NHRA professional class, Top Fuel, in 2006 behind the wheel of a newly formed team owned by Las Vegas businessman Ken Black and managed by Kalitta Motorsports, the multi-car team founded and owned by drag racing icon Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta. She won her first Top Fuel event trophy in Norwalk (IHRA) in her rookie season and made her first NHRA final-round appearance in Memphis. She finished the season in tenth place in Top Fuel championship points in ‘06.

The O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals was the 4th of 24 national events in the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
